The global bicycle industry loses two long-serving managers with the recent deaths of Pacific Cycles President Michael Lin and Rodi founder Armando Pereira da Silva.
On January 9th, Pacific Cycles lost its President, Michael Lin, who died peacefully at the age of 57 years. Michael Lin will be remembered for his enthusiasm and embrace of innovation. He is survived by his father George Lin who had founded the company in 1980 and handed over the post as President as per 2022. With its headquarters close to Taoyuan rather than in Taichung, Pacific Cycles has always followed a trajectory of its own. Just like the iconic Birdy folding bike, Pacific Cycles focused on the production of complexely shaped alloy frames at lower volumes and at high quality. Pacific Cycles has stated that the team will continue to uphold his vision, pushing forward with the company’s established plans to lead the business steadily into the future.
Founder of Rodi, Armando Pereira da Silva died January 7 at the age of 91 years. As far back as 1952, Pereira da Silva had founded a metal workshop in the town of Agueda, Portugal. Over the years this workshop grew to become Rodi, one of the key suppliers of bicycle rims and wheels in Portugal and one of the driving forces behind the Portugal Bike Value as one of Europe’s prime initiatives in terms of reshoring. Guided by an innovative spirit and a bold vision, Armando Pereira da Silva established himself as a respected and admired figure in the sector, leaving an indelible mark on the business landscape. Part of Agueda’s industrial area was named after him two years ago.
