After Eurobike, it’s time for Taichung Bike Week. In just six weeks, from September 24th to 27th, the next major event for the bicycle industry will take place in the Taiwanese city of Taichung. Around 400 companies are expected to gather in the three exhibition hotels Splendor, Tempus, and Evergreen. As in previous years, the event will primarily cater to OEM exhibitors and focus on negotiations over new product specifications for upcoming model years.

Product News – E-Bike Systems and Sustainability

A look at the latest activities on the business platform LinkedIn, where numerous companies have revealed more details about their participation in the B2B bicycle event in recent days, shows what visitors can expect. On the product side, innovations in e-bike drive systems are in the spotlight. For example, Taiwanese electronics specialist Delta is announcing the specifications of a new drive model. DT Boost from Taoyuan will present its frictionless hub motor system. And Motinova from Hong Kong will showcase its range of mid-drive and hub motor products at TBW – just to name a few examples.

Sustainability will also be a key focus for the bicycle industry in Taichung. 9T Labs from Switzerland will present its Additive Fusion Technology, which makes bicycle parts more sustainable by using carbon fibre thermoplastic composites. Re-Tyre from Norway will showcase its environmentally friendly tyre technology. Finnish component specialist Herrmans has highlighted its commitment to advancing sustainability in its latest report. Additionally, numerous members of the Taiwanese Bicycling Alliance for Sustainability, which now includes 80 companies, will be present – for example, Novatec.

Spotlight on the Economic Situation

Regardless of the individual announcements from participating companies, the global bicycle industry is likely to look forward to economic news, especially given the ongoing challenging climate in the sector. Recent reports from Taiwanese industry leaders Giant and Merida suggested that the situation in Taiwan might ease in the near future. However, there are also warnings to remain cautious. Conversations at Eurobike revealed that several players in the Taiwanese e-bike industry are still experiencing quiet times and are preparing for a prolonged downturn. The atmosphere at Taichung Bike Week, as a major order fair, could provide more insights into developments for the 2025 and 2026 business years.
